psych med makes me MAD !!
i think its too dark for me..
oh, i call it - The Dark Side of Medicine.

yesterdae, i listened to my patient talk bout her losses..
she's diagnosed with major depression/complicated grief.
she had 3 losses in a span of 10months..
first, it was her husband.. he died in a road traffic accident..
den 6months later, her father-in-law died of grief..
and another 4months later, her step-father passed awae too..
i nearly cried when she was telling her story..
when she was decribing how she had to coped with everything..
how sad and lonely is she now.. all the new responsiblities, all the emotions, etc.
argh, very saddening indeed :(

and den i start to wonder, how do these psychiatrists cope?
i mean, if i become a psychiatrist, i'll be too overwhelmed by all these..
i think i'll end up having a major depression..
there's so many people with so many problems..
how can we help all of them?
sounds impossible to me !!

oh sadness.
i dun like psych med coz is too dark for me :(

spoilt brat syndrome
a syndrome in which the patient refuse to leave home unless he/she has car/bike. it is a syndrome in which the patient would rather stay home and sulk, than take a bus out to town, or take mrt to school.

here's a classic example of spoilt brat syndrome.

case study 1
miss kerly girl (names have been changed to protect the patient's identity) is 21year old medical student. she is described by her friends to be slack, but not too lazy. everydae, she would make her wae to school on her little vespa called mr cream, or in her cutesie nissan march, mr march.

one dae, mr march died on kerly girl and he was sent to the mechanic. kerly girl was very sad, but at least she had mr cream and mummy's lancer.

on one lazy thursdae afternoon, kerly girl felt rather hungry and so, she decided to drive out to buy lunch. horror upon horror !! there's no car at home !! thats coz mummy dearest went out in her lancer.

kerly girl decided "hmm.. oh well, i'm not that hungry anywae... i shall wait for mummy dearest to come home with lancer."

then a voice inside her head said "why dun you walk to the kopitiam?? its only 100metres awae !!!"

and kerly girl immediately responded "oh no, no no !! no wae i'm walking, i rather starve to death than walk out!!"

and so, she waited for 2hours, but mummy dearest still dint come home. kerly girl called mummy dearest, and mummy said that she wont be home till late. mummy dearest had to pick sister, The Stressed One, from school. This is becoz sister, The Stressed One, is having her A levels.

and oh, kerly girl decided to starve herself rather than walk 100metres to the kopitiam to buy lunch. at that point of time, she was already suffering from noisy stomach and becoming a hungry hippo !!

fortunately, korkorjyn suggested riding mr cream out for lunch. and so, kerly girl thot about it for awhile. "hmm, the trouble of putting on a helmet is a much better option than having to walk" oh yes !

so in the end, lazy kerly girl rode out 100metres on mr cream, bought herself and korkorjyn yummy lunch, and rode back another 100metres.

oh darn, i really think i got spoilt brat syndrome :(
